I am a Photographer and Graphic Designer who grew up in Venice, California when it was just a scrappy, working-class beach community.
I fell in love with photography when I was 16 and dreamt of making a living happily ever after as a photographer. But I got sidetracked when I enrolled at the Art Center College of Design, then graduated with a degree in Advertising Design. I worked as an Art Director for over 25 years, creating ad campaigns for globally recognized brands that included IBM, Microsoft, Mattel, and American Express. I was fortunate to work with top commercial photographers–Peggy Sirota, Joe Baraban, and Hunter Freeman among them. Invaluable learning gifts from the Universe.
In 2008, the great bank bailout deemed my livelihood too small to matter. I quickly found myself taking orders at a bar and music venue on the Santa Monica Pier to keep a roof over my children’s heads and food on our table. I took classes to learn printmaking and oil painting, and I began making collages. I surfed every day for a year. All of this was impractical of course, but it saved me.
In 2010 I began designing again, creating merch and posters for the music venue. I became a business owner, growing my client roster to include independent music artists, visual artists, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations. With little to no budget for photography, I started shooting for my clients as well.
By 2014 I was in love with photography all over again. I took classes in studio lighting at Art Center and the Los Angeles Center for Photography. I began shooting portraits, live music shows, and corporate events.
Dreams are weird like that, where timelines make sense only to the dreamer.
I continue to grow my photography client roster with product and lifestyle shoots. I continue to grow as an artist with personal photography projects, along with painting and collage making. I have participated in shows and have sold some prints. Currently, my photographs are included in the personal collections of patrons in California and New York and have been featured on music packaging, company websites, and events marketing.
